Several types of diabetes are common in the community.
Type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is caused by a chronic condition that affects how the body processes blood sugar (glucose).
If you have type 2 diabetes, your body is unable to use insulin properly. This is then referred to as insulin resistance. At first, the pancreas in your body makes extra insulin to replace it. However, over time, the pancreas in your body cannot maintain. It cannot make enough insulin to keep your blood glucose at a normal level.
Frequent tingling feet are a sign of symptoms of diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is not a disease commonly suffered in childhood. Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age in people of every race and every shape and size. More adults have type 1 diabetes than children, although it was previously known as childhood diabetes.
In type 1 diabetes, the body cannot produce insulin. The body then breaks down the carbohydrates you eat into blood glucose (also called blood sugar), and uses it for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream to the body's cells. With insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and lead a long and healthy life.
Prediabetes is a condition in which high blood sugar, but not high blood sugar levels, becomes type 2 diabetes.
Gestational diabetes is diabetes that occurs during pregnancy in a woman. Like other types of diabetes, gestational diabetes affects how your cells use sugar (glucose). Gestational diabetes can cause high blood sugar, which can affect your pregnancy and your baby's health.
