Analgesic and Antipyretic (Pain Relief and Body Heat Reduction)

Pain medication is a general term for analgesics. Although these drugs reduce pain, anti-pain drugs do not cure the disease that causes the pain. Simple pain relievers can be purchased without a doctor's prescription. There are two types of painkillers that can be used, namely paracetamol (or acetaminophen) or acetosal. Both are heat-lowering drugs (fever medicines). Strong anti-pain drugs such as NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs / non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and narc--otic analgesics (which cause drowsiness) need a doctor's prescription

Pain Relief and Body Heat Reduction


a. When given

Paracetamol


  • Relieves pain, for example headache, toothache, pain after surgery
  • Reduce fever

Acetosal


  • Relieves pain, for example headaches, muscle aches
  • Reduce fever
  • Anti-inflammatory, such as rheumatoid arthritis, bone rheumatism

NSAIDS (anti-inflammatory drugs not steroids)


  • Relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis in bones, joints and non-joints
  • Relieve symptoms due to trauma to muscles and bones or joints, such as sprains.
  • Relieve mild to moderate pain such as menstrual pain, pain after surgery.


b. Procedure


  • Inhibiting the production of pain-causing compounds.
  • Inhibiting the center of pain awareness in the brain.


c. Complication


Complication of Paracetamol:

  • Rarely, unless the dose is high or too long
  • High dose and long term use cause
  • liver and kidney damage

Complication of Asetosal:


  • Gastric irritation / stomach ulcers, causing pain, nausea and vomiting.
  • The ears buzz during long-term use.
  • Exchange blood clots.
  • Reye's syndrome can occur, which is a disease that attacks the liver and brain in children aged less than 6 years.
  • Allergic reactions, such as skin rashes.

Complication of  NSAIDS:


  • Gastric irritation, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Allergic reactions, nausea, skin rashes
  • Analgesic types of narcotics:
  • Nauseous vomit
  • Dizzy, sleepy
  • Constipation
  • Hooked


d. Attention


  • Take pain medications after eating, or with a glass of low-fat milk.
  • Do not take pain medication for pain in the chest and abdomen, where the diagnosis of the disease depends on the pattern of pain.
  • As an anti-pain and pain medication, don't give aspirin to children under 6 years of age, because of the danger of Reye's Syndrome.
  • Do not take aspirin together with other NSAIDS drugs 
  • Check with your doctor if after 5 days the pain does not subside or after 2 days the heat does not go down.
