Analgesic and Antipyretic (Pain Relief and Body Heat Reduction)
Pain medication is a general term for analgesics. Although these drugs reduce pain, anti-pain drugs do not cure the disease that causes the pain. Simple pain relievers can be purchased without a doctor's prescription. There are two types of painkillers that can be used, namely paracetamol (or acetaminophen) or acetosal. Both are heat-lowering drugs (fever medicines). Strong anti-pain drugs such as NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs / non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and narc--otic analgesics (which cause drowsiness) need a doctor's prescription
a. When given
Paracetamol
- Relieves pain, for example headache, toothache, pain after surgery
- Reduce fever
Acetosal
- Relieves pain, for example headaches, muscle aches
- Reduce fever
- Anti-inflammatory, such as rheumatoid arthritis, bone rheumatism
NSAIDS (anti-inflammatory drugs not steroids)
- Relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis in bones, joints and non-joints
- Relieve symptoms due to trauma to muscles and bones or joints, such as sprains.
- Relieve mild to moderate pain such as menstrual pain, pain after surgery.
b. Procedure
- Inhibiting the production of pain-causing compounds.
- Inhibiting the center of pain awareness in the brain.
c. Complication
Complication of Paracetamol:
- Rarely, unless the dose is high or too long
- High dose and long term use cause
- liver and kidney damage
Complication of Asetosal:
- Gastric irritation / stomach ulcers, causing pain, nausea and vomiting.
- The ears buzz during long-term use.
- Exchange blood clots.
- Reye's syndrome can occur, which is a disease that attacks the liver and brain in children aged less than 6 years.
- Allergic reactions, such as skin rashes.
Complication of NSAIDS:
- Gastric irritation, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea
- Bleeding disorders
- Allergic reactions, nausea, skin rashes
- Analgesic types of narcotics:
- Nauseous vomit
- Dizzy, sleepy
- Constipation
- Hooked
d. Attention
- Take pain medications after eating, or with a glass of low-fat milk.
- Do not take pain medication for pain in the chest and abdomen, where the diagnosis of the disease depends on the pattern of pain.
- As an anti-pain and pain medication, don't give aspirin to children under 6 years of age, because of the danger of Reye's Syndrome.
- Do not take aspirin together with other NSAIDS drugs
- Check with your doctor if after 5 days the pain does not subside or after 2 days the heat does not go down.
