Female Reproductive Organs

Aging effects on s-ex hormone levels are more clearly seen in women than in men.  For women, most of these effects are related to menopause, when the level of female hormones (especially estrogen) drops dramatically, menstrual periods end permanently, and pregnancy is unlikely to occur again.

Decreased levels of female hormones cause the ovaries and uterus to shrink.  Vag-inal tissues become thinner, drier, and less elastic (atrophic vaginitis).  In severe cases, these changes can cause itching, bleeding, pain during s--exual intercourse, and a high need to urinate immediately.

In addition, the breasts become less tight and tend to sag.  This change makes it difficult for us to do breast self-examination to find abnormal lumps.  Some other changes that begin at menopause (such as low hormone levels and vaginal dryness) can interfere with sexual activity.  However, for most women, aging does not really reduce the pleasure of s--exual activity.  The loss of worry about the possibility of pregnancy can make women more enjoy s--exual activities.
