Causes of Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are a very common problem in most people. The good news is that it's not a problem for your health for the most part, just a problem for your appearance, and that is the main reason why people look to get rid of these kinds of veins. Most of us have seen varicose veins before. These are the veins that are usually located in the legs and are a blue color. However, have you ever wondered what causes those kinds of veins to be visible like that? Today we are going to talk about what makes these veins do that and who is most likely to get them.
Varicose vein causes are, of course, different in many people. However, there are some people who are much more likely to get Varicose veins than others. For example, women are much more likely to get varicose veins than men. In fact, 25% of women will develop varicose veins, while only about 15% of men ever get it. Also, women who stand on their feet all day long, double their chances of getting it.
Now we can move on to the cause of varicose veins. You see, your veins are in charge of returning and carrying blood from the rest of your body to your heart. Whenever you are talking about your legs, the veins actually have something working against them, and it's known as gravity. Two things help to get blood back up to the heart. When your muscles contracts, it acts like a pump, pumping blood back up to it. That is why, if you stand in one place for a long time without moving your legs, you start to get light headed; your blood is not being pumped as good.
The other way that blood gets back up is because your vein walls are elastic. They tighten up to help get the blood back up to your body. Then they close up to keep the blood from flowing backwards. However, as you get older, just like a pair of old warn out shorts, the elasticity in your veins starts to wear out. Thus, they are not able to stop blood from flowing backwards. In the end, you are left with blood pools in your veins, and these are the big blue lines you see running in some peoples' legs.
Another cause of varicose veins would be when a woman becomes pregnant. When you become pregnant, the volume of blood in your body increases, however, it decreases to your legs. This is because it is designed to go to the growing fetus in your body. However, because of that, it is also one of the leading causes of varicose veins. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are going to have to deal with the varicose veins, and because women are the ones who get pregnant, that is one of the main reasons why women are much more likely to get varicose veins. As you can see, varicose vein causes can be determined by a number of things. The good news is that it is something that you can take care of if you are willing to spend the money on it.
