How to Avoid Mountain Sickness

How to avoid mountain sickness

Places that are located higher than sea level, have lower levels of oxygen than lower places.  This kind of situation often brings unintended consequences for mountain climbers.  The disturbance especially began to be felt at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level.  But the emergence of these reactions depends on the durability and adaptability of individuals.

1. Acute mountain sickness

Patients at first feel dizzy, headache, fatigue, drowsiness, cold, nausea and vomiting, pale, and shortness of breath.  Then followed by a feeling of heat, anxiety, ears ringing, difficulty concentrating and insomnia.

Rescue action:
Generally with rest, symptoms will disappear within 24-48 hours.  But if it does not work, the patient must be brought back to a lower place.  Such accidents can be prevented by walking: rest before climbing, avoid to eat too much, and avoid cigarettes or liquor.

2 Acute mountain disease accompanied by lung disorders.

Serious disorders usually occur at an altitude of 3000 meters or more. Symptoms appear 6-36 hours after arriving at the place.  Signs: dry cough, shortness of breath at rest, chest pressure, and possibly coughing up blood.  The pulse is getting faster, the patient appears pale and blue, then faints.

Rescue action:
Rest with your head lower than other body parts.  Give artificial respiration if necessary. Take it back to a lower place, and go to the hospital.
