Signs of The Body When Experiencing Malnutrition
Eating is not only aimed at overcoming hunger or feeling the taste of food. The most important thing about eating is the fulfillment of nutritional needs or nutrients needed by the body. The right nutrition is an essential key to living a healthy life. The body needs calories for activities and other nutrients such as protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, and others.
Not everyone can meet their daily nutritional needs. So that it will cause the body to experience several disorders. The following are signs and symptoms if the body is not getting enough of the nutritional needs.
Tired Easily
Feeling a lack of energy throughout the day can sign a lack of intake of certain nutrients in the body, such as iron or calories. Too little mineral intake can cause the body to lack red blood cells or anemia.
Calories are nutrients the body needs to have energy. One day the body needs a minimum of 1000 calories to carry out its essential functions. If a person has physical activity, it requires more than 1000 calories. However, if the calories consumed are more than what the body needs, it will be stored as fat.
People who want to lose weight generally reduce the number of calories consumed. Suppose someone consumes calories less than 1000 calories. In that case, they will experience a decrease in the metabolic rate, which causes the body to tire quickly.
Hair loss
Experiencing several strands of hair loss every day is typical. However, if the amount of hair loss increases, it is necessary to correct the daily nutritional intake. Many nutrients are needed to keep hair growth normal and healthy. Lack of intake of calories, protein, biotin, iron, and other nutrients is a common cause of hair loss.
Jagged or Spoon-Like Nails
Poor nutrition can cause some changes to the nails. Nails can become thin and brittle or curl like a spoon, especially on the index or third fingers. This can occur due to a lack of iron, protein, calcium, vitamins A, B6, C, or D.
Dental Problems
A sign of unbalanced nutritional intake is the appearance of problems in the mouth. Lack of vitamin C can cause bleeding, gingivitis (irritation of the gums).
Decreased Body Resistance
Having an inadequate nutrition intake can cause the immune system to decline. The ability to fight viruses, bacteria, or other diseases also decreases. Some essential nutrients for the immune system are protein, zinc, vitamins A, C, and E.
Easy bruises and difficult to heal
If the body bruises easily, mostly if it happens without a cause, such as falling or bumping into something, it is likely caused by an imbalanced nutritional intake. Nutrients that affect this, such as protein, vitamin C, or vitamin K, are needed for the wound healing process. Vitamin C has a role in helping tissue repair itself, and vitamin K play a role in the blood clotting process.
